NEW POOL CONSTRUCTION

building from
start to finish

01

Layout

Once you sign your contract and your permit is approved by your municipality and HOA (if applicable) our team will come to your house and scrap the sod then place an outline of your design in your yard using wood boards.

This outline will be the beginning of the process and allow the crew in the next step to know exactly where to dig your pool. You will need to have all irrigation cut and capped in the pool and access area along with removing any plants and trees from the construction area including where the deck and equipment will go.

02

Excavation

This is where the real fun begins. The pool will be dug, typically with an excavator and a bobcat to shuttle the dirt out to the dump truck. This can take anywhere from a few hours to all day depending on the size of your pool and whether the team runs into any unknown obstacles.

Sometimes the soil conditions and weather can delay this process further but our team will work diligently to overcome these issues and get you closer to swimming. Excavation will leave your backyard and the access area in a bit of a mess but don’t worry this is all part of the process and by the end it will be looking better than before with your custom pool in it.

03

Steel

After the hole is dug our team will form the skeleton of the pool using steel rebar.  This will give you an even better idea of the shape and some details of your pool but will still look like it needs a lot of work and it does!

The steel helps to reinforce the Gunite that is the shell of the pool.

04

Gunite Shoot

The next step of your pool construction is the gunite shoot. Our team will prep your yard and shield areas that can be hit with overshoot.  Once prep is complete, they will begin shooting the gunite to form the concrete shell of the pool.

This is a loud and messy process but once complete you will see all of the benches, shelfs and stairs that were designed in the pool.  The gunite is strong but not water proof and it will gather rain water and other debris along the way but don’t worry it will be cleaned out and waterproofed by the time we’re finished.

05

Plumbing

Once the shell cures and we backfill the area around it then our plumbers will come out and set all the plumbing in place.  They start by digging a fresh plumbing ditch around the pool where all the pipes will lay.

Next the set the equipment and hook up all the pipes.  The piping is all sealed and inspected for leaks.

06

Tile

Around the time that the plumbing work gets done the tile crew will install your waterline tile and any other materials around the perimeter of the pool like ledgestone and glass.

This is when shear decent waterfalls are installed and also step tiles if they are part of your design.

07

Decking

When the tile and plumbing are complete our deck crew will be scheduled to come out and start another major part of your project.  The deck can be concrete, brick pavers, travertine, or other materials.

Usually the outline will have a footer or turndown wall depending on the grade in your yard.  Sometimes with very steep grades a retaining wall is required.  The decking is one of the final steps needed to put water in the pool.

08

Electrical

At this point, our electricians will install your timer or automation panel along with other electronic components to your system.  The system will be installed according to local and state codes and will have a separate breaker in the main panel outside the house.

The electrician will also bond all of the equipment together with a common ground wire to the steel in the shell of the pool.

09

Safety Features

Screen Enclosures, Fence, Baby Fence

After the decking is done the screen company can get proper measurements to start building the enclosure.  The screen is built in sections offsite and delivered a short time later.  The screen is usually assembled and secured to the deck and house within a day or two. If you decide not to install a screen enclosure, in order to meet local and state codes, you will be required to put a fence up if one is not already existing.

Another possible safety barrier is a baby fence. Baby fences are mounted in holes that are drilled into your decking material which allow for the homeowner to easily take them down and put them back up as needed.  Pool alarms are mounted to the side of the pool or float on the surface and go off if someone or something falls into the pool.  Some combination of these features are typically required by your municipality in order to pass the “Safety” inspection.

10

Interior Finish

Upon successful completion of the required inspections we can do a final cleaning and prepare for the interior finish.  We will clean up any loose debris, cut the return pipes, waterproof the main drains, and inspect the pool shell once again for blemishes.

After the clean up process the interior finish crew will spend a day mixing and applying the interior finish.  Some finishes require an extra step the next day but then your pool will be ready for water!  Most pools will fill up in 24-48 hours.

11

Pool Fire Up & Pool School

When the water reaches the desired level in the pool our team will come out and do the initial fire up.  The equipment is turned on and tested, wall fittings installed, chemicals added, automation programmed, and you will get a brief rundown of the operation and your responsibilities over the next few weeks.  The best part is you can finally go for your first swim!!

There is typically some touch up work and may be some tweaking to the pool equipment and operation but once all of that is complete you will take full responsibly for the maintenance and operation of you new pool.  We have a detailed Pool School that will show you everything you need to know to keep your pool in tip top shape so you can enjoy your Backyard Bliss year round!

FAQ

You ask, we answer

Here we give you some answers we often get about our process.

It’s hard to give an accurate answer to this question but generally it will take 3-5 months to complete construction after we have received a permit.

Yes, during construction we have what is called a “weep hole” that allows water to move freely between the shell and underground.  This helps equalize the pressure so the pool shell will not pop out of the ground.

It depends, for cosmetic changes you can discuss with your sales rep/contractor.  There may be a fee for changes depending on the size and scope.

We will fire up your pool and add startup chemicals within a day or two after it fills up.  Typically you can swim in it within a couple of hours of the fire up.  We will focus mainly on chlorine and ph levels for the first few weeks after fire up.
